About the position

The Monitor I position at GEO Group involves maintaining a secure environment within the facility while ensuring the safety and well-being of residents. The role requires continuous alertness and awareness, operating within legal constraints, and adhering to agency stipulations. Monitors are responsible for conducting facility counts, supervising resident work details, and documenting incidents and activities to maintain compliance with facility standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous state of alertness and awareness to control and secure the facility and residents.
  • Ensure operational readiness of equipment necessary for each watch, including radios and flashlights.
  • Prepare shift documentation including reports and security logs that meet facility standards.
  • Receive information from previous shift personnel regarding events and special instructions.
  • Conduct facility counts at prescribed times and ensure accuracy in logbooks.
  • Frequently patrol the building to observe residents and monitor the state of the facility.
  • Ensure the building picture board is accurate and up-to-date with resident information.
  • Organize and supervise resident work details to maintain facility cleanliness.
  • Perform scheduled and random activities such as urinalysis testing and pat downs to maintain control and security.
  • Document disciplinary actions for rule violations according to procedures.
  • Conduct cleanliness checks of the facility and residents' personal belongings.
  • Welcome visitors and verify their identity while maintaining professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively with residents and staff to enhance self-esteem and maintain positive relations.
  • Participate in staff meetings to share observations and recommendations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information obtained through job duties.
  • Comply with company policies and work rules as described in the Employee Handbook and Facility Policies.
  • Adhere to attendance policies and be available for shifts or overtime as needed.
  • Comply with facility safety rules and take corrective action to ensure safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of general work experience.
  • Experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Sufficient organizational skills to maintain workflow.
  • Ability to express thoughts logically in written and verbal form using correct grammar.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to perform a wide range of duties.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others and learn supervisory techniques.
  • Ability to maintain positive relations with staff and residents.
  • Ability to motivate and create an atmosphere of enthusiasm toward work ethic.
  • Ability to work with computers and applicable software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a correctional or rehabilitation environment is a plus.
