About the position

The Monitor Technician is responsible for the continuous observation and analysis of cardiac rhythms in the Central Monitoring Room. This role involves interpreting cardiac rhythms, distinguishing between normal and abnormal patterns, and reporting findings accurately and promptly to nursing staff. The position requires vigilance and attention to detail to ensure patient safety and effective monitoring of cardiac conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously observe cardiac rhythms in the Central Monitoring Room.
  • Admit patients into the system and enter applicable patient information.
  • Verify that patients are on the correct telemetry transmitter upon admission and every shift.
  • Analyze and document each patient's rhythm strips upon admission and at least every 8 hours.
  • Notify nursing staff of rhythm changes and lethal or malignant rhythms immediately.
  • Maintain communication with nursing staff and interdisciplinary care team regarding patient conditions.
  • Disinfect telemetry transmitters after each patient use and maintain monitoring equipment.
  • Document lead, regularity, atrial rate, and other cardiac metrics for each patient at least every 8 hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the Dysrhythmia Course and MST orientation.
  • Basic computer skills including keyboard and mouse use.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Completion of on-the-job training for LGH computer programs.
  • Annual competency assessment for cardiac rhythm interpretation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a similar role preferred, but orientation is provided after completing the Dysrhythmia Course.
  • CPR certification recommended.
  • Ability to complete data entry on clinical documentation screens.
