In the role of Monitor Technician, you will serve as a live control center, monitoring patients 24/7 to enhance their care and safety. This position requires working nights from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. A caregiver who excels in this role will perform ongoing surveillance of patients' cardiac monitors, cardiac rhythm, and vital signs. You will be responsible for notifying nursing caregivers of any changes in cardiac rhythm or hemodynamics that could impact the patient's condition. Additionally, you will interpret patients' cardiac rhythms and document your findings in their electronic medical records. Effective communication is crucial in this role; you will answer the telephone and clearly communicate when receiving and delivering information. You will also have the opportunity to orient and mentor new caregivers, serving as a training and troubleshooting resource for the Cardiac Monitoring Unit (CMU) and nursing units. Providing reports for the oncoming shift is another key responsibility. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, along with knowledge of basic patient care activities, which can be obtained through a formal training program in allied health or healthcare fields such as nursing, medical assisting, or EMT, or through one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home, or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing surveillance of patients' cardiac monitors, cardiac rhythm, and vital signs.
  • Notify nursing caregivers of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact the patient's condition.
  • Interpret patient's cardiac rhythm and document in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Answer the telephone and communicate clearly when receiving and delivering information.
  • Orient and mentor new caregivers and serve as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.
  • Provide reports for the oncoming shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities attained through successful completion of a formal training program in allied health or a healthcare field such as nursing, medical assisting, EMT, or a similar field OR one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home, or healthcare field.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of EKG/Cardiac Monitoring course.
  • Experience as a Monitor Technician.
  • Demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms.
