About the position

The Morning Teacher position at Open Door Preschools is a part-time role focused on providing quality early childhood education in an inclusive and diverse environment. For over 45 years, Open Door Preschools has been dedicated to nurturing young children from various developmental backgrounds and economic levels. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching through play and a commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of children. Teachers will work collaboratively with a team of caring professionals to create a supportive and engaging educational atmosphere. In this role, teachers will be responsible for child-led interactions, ensuring that children's needs are prioritized at all times. This includes encouraging independence in routine activities and fostering self-help skills in a developmentally appropriate manner. Teachers will also maintain open lines of communication with parents, conducting regular conferences and providing updates through various channels such as Brightwheel and class newsletters. The curriculum will be tailored to the developmental levels of the children, with a focus on promoting a balance of indoor and outdoor play, as well as quiet and active periods. Teachers will document classroom activities and create lesson plans that cater to the individual needs of each child, including those with special needs. Additionally, teachers will be expected to uphold health and safety standards, maintain a clean and organized classroom, and participate in ongoing professional development to enhance their skills and knowledge in early childhood education.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with children through play and responsive conversations, keeping their needs top of mind.
  • Encourage independence and self-help skills in children in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Communicate positively and informatively with parents on a daily basis.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences at least twice a year, utilizing assessment tools to discuss developmental skills and goals.
  • Create and update lesson plans weekly based on observations of children's developmental milestones and individual needs.
  • Document classroom activities through attendance sheets, transitional charts, and emergency forms.
  • Promote equity and anti-racist understandings through culturally responsive teaching.
  • Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment, ensuring it is accessible and developmentally appropriate.
  • Participate in mandatory staff meetings and training days, maintaining 30 hours of training per year as per NAEYC standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Some previous child care experience is required.
  • Dependable and flexible availability to work regularly scheduled hours between 7:15am-1pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Preferred: College credit in early childhood development and at least one year of prior child care experience.
  • Preferred: CPR Certification and Child Development Associate Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in early childhood education or teaching through play.
  • Knowledge of Childcare Minimum Standards, NAEYC DAP, and Code of Ethics.
