About the position

The Morning Program Leader at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whittier plays a crucial role in fostering youth development and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for children aged 6-18. This part-time position is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on youth while balancing other commitments such as school or another job. The role requires working up to 10 hours per week, specifically from 6:15 AM to 8:00 AM, and is contingent upon the successful implementation of program guidelines and continued grant funding. As a Morning Program Leader, you will help oversee the successful implementation of services across five core program areas: Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. Your primary responsibilities will include supporting programs at the assigned site, assisting members with homework, and establishing meaningful relationships with club members. You will also encourage positive reinforcement and help create a fun and safe environment for youth. In addition to youth development, you will be involved in program development and implementation, which includes planning and executing activities related to academic enrichment, healthy lifestyles, and character & citizenship. Collaboration with the Site Coordinator and team is essential for creating lesson plans, program calendars, and scheduling activities, as well as planning special events. Supervision is a key aspect of this role, as you will ensure that members are always within sight and provide effective guidance and role modeling. You will also be responsible for maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment for all members, ensuring their safety during off-site trips and special events. Additional responsibilities include maintaining facility equipment, building relationships with stakeholders, participating in staff meetings, and contributing to the overall success of club programs.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage positive reinforcement.
  • Plan and implement programs and activities, including academic enrichment, healthy lifestyles, and character & citizenship.
  • Work with Site Coordinator and team to create lesson plans, program calendars, and schedules of activities.
  • Plan and implement special/culminating events.
  • Ensure that members always remain in line of sight.
  • Provide effective guidance and role modeling to members and help resolve problems and conflicts.
  • Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for all members at all times.
  • Provide safe passage to and from off-site trips, walking programs, and special events.
  • Contribute to ensuring that facility, equipment, and supplies are maintained.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including guardians, parents, teachers, and school administration.
  • Assist with overall club programs or special events when needed.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, when required.
  • Participate in all mandatory trainings.
  • Assist with any activity reports that are needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • AA degree or 48 college semester units or passing of the Program Leader Equivalency Exam.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral problems.
  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
  • Experience working with youth ages 6-18.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid certification prior to hire.
  • All positions are subject to clearance of Background Checks and Drug Testing.
  • Mandatory TB Testing prior to hire.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus but not required.
