About the position

The Mortgage Closing Specialist serves as an intermediary in the mortgage closing process, ensuring the accurate collection, review, and preparation of information for the issuance of Closing Disclosures (CD). This role involves collaboration with various parties to meet target close dates, manage tasks, and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines throughout the closing process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain effective communication with all necessary parties involved in closing a transaction.
  • Work with various internal departments and external organizations to obtain closing-related documentation.
  • Perform a thorough and accurate review of the file to ensure compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
  • Follow up on rate lock expirations and document expirations.
  • Review system of record information to ensure accurate closing documentation can be prepared.
  • Perform validation of fees and submit wires to fund all loans within necessary time frames.
  • Prepare and issue CD timely and accurately, ensuring review of applicable conditions and cash back at closing.
  • Report system and closing document issues to management.
  • Test closing documents and custom enhancements for system updates.
  • Assist in new employee/contractor onboarding and technical training.
  • Aid with expansion of departmental instructional manual/materials.
  • Support Team Lead in answering questions and providing input on day-to-day business practices.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years' prior mortgage experience.
  • Solid knowledge of department software.
  • Strong PC skills with knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and email software.
  • Specialized knowledge of all product, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on information provided.
  • Versatility and flexibility working within a fast-paced mortgage environment.
  • Ability to function independently within time constraints.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize daily workload.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliable and dependable.
  • Notary Public.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior mortgage experience in mortgage closing at a lender, title company, or settlement agent's office.
  • Experience with specialized mortgage software.
