About the position

The Mortgage Community Development Loan Officer at Bell Bank is responsible for originating mortgage loans with a focus on low-to-moderate income individuals and communities of color. This role emphasizes community engagement, financial empowerment, and closing the homeownership disparity gap. The officer will work closely with community partners, conduct educational workshops, and ensure compliance with various regulations while maintaining high client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Originate compliant mortgage loans focusing on low-to-moderate income individuals and communities of color.
  • Gather necessary documentation for loan applications and advise customers on appropriate mortgage loans.
  • Maintain high standards of client satisfaction and ensure efficient workflow in sales/originator systems.
  • Manage client referrals and ensure new customers are introduced to local branches and other business lines.
  • Originate a minimum of 3 loans per month or 36 loans per year.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with community partners.
  • Conduct financial wellness and homebuyer education workshops.
  • Represent Bell at community-focused events and meetings.
  • Track and report on all community development activities and goals.
  • Participate in meetings with Bell partners and provide updates or training as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Preferred three years of experience as a loan officer in first mortgage production.
  • Thorough knowledge of pricing and underwriting requirements of various mortgage insurance companies.
  • Demonstrated experience with Affordable Lending products.
  • Proven experience in supporting Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Fair Lending goals.
  • High School Diploma or Bachelor's degree in a business-related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines such as FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and RESPA.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience utilizing laptop technology.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
