About the position

The Mortgage Inside Sales Loan Officer at Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union is responsible for originating, reviewing, and evaluating mortgage loan applications. This role involves counseling members on appropriate financial planning and practices while providing superior quality service that aligns with the credit union's core values. The officer will conduct interviews and process mortgage loan requests through various channels, including appointments, web applications, phone calls, and walk-ins. Evaluating creditworthiness is a critical aspect of the job, requiring the analysis of supporting documentation such as pay stubs, W-2s, tax returns, and asset documents. The officer will also utilize credit reports to verify the accuracy of applications and review property-related documentation provided by borrowers or real estate professionals. In addition to processing applications, the officer must disclose loan applications accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations. Providing sound reasoning for the approval or denial of loan applications is essential, with documentation maintained in loan notes. A key part of the role is to deliver a superior member experience by actively listening to members' needs, explaining the features and benefits of mortgage products, and offering targeted solutions. The officer is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all mortgage products, including construction loans, and educate members on financial planning, creditworthiness, underwriting guidelines, and interest rates. The Mortgage Inside Sales Loan Officer will strive to exceed the credit union's service and sales goals by developing and maintaining member relationships. This includes building internal relationships with branches to educate frontline staff on mortgage products and obtaining qualified referrals, as well as developing external relationships with realtors and builders. The officer will also participate in homebuyer education seminars and follow up with attendees to foster additional relationships and loans. Meeting or exceeding annual department origination goals set by management is a key performance indicator for this role. Additionally, the officer must complete all necessary steps to register and renew yearly with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) and ensure compliance with the SAFE Act training requirements. Continuous professional development through schools, seminars, and training is encouraged to enhance product knowledge.
