About the position

The Mortgage Loan Officer I/II at Navy Federal Credit Union is responsible for interviewing and counseling members regarding first mortgage loans, guiding them through the application and closing process. This role involves establishing and maintaining personal relationships with members, determining their qualifications, and providing detailed information about mortgage products. The officer will also build referral relationships with realtors and builders, ensuring compliance with federal laws and internal guidelines throughout the loan process.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and counsel members about first mortgage loans and take mortgage loan applications.
  • Establish and maintain personal relationships with members throughout the loan process.
  • Determine applicants' qualifications and provide detailed information about mortgage products.
  • Analyze referred loans for areas of concern and determine proper course of action.
  • Advise members on approved loan conditions and documentation requirements.
  • Ensure progress and inclusion of required mortgage processing information.
  • Maintain contact with members, realtors, and sellers during the loan process.
  • Monitor mortgage loan process for compliance with federal laws and internal guidelines.
  • Remain available to members and real estate agents during scheduled evening hours and weekends.
  • Request and obtain necessary documentation and forward to Mortgage Processor.
  • Respond to inquiries about mortgage applications and processing status.
  • Conduct outside marketing and promotional activities to members and potential members.
  • Take first mortgage loan applications via face-to-face interview, mail, and telephone.
  • Resolve operational and processing issues, inquiries, and complaints.
  • Review applications for completeness and accuracy, determining if additional information is required.

Requirements

  • Ability to work effectively with automated systems.
  • Experience in the mortgage lending industry.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage lending requirements, regulations, and procedures for VA and conventional loan programs.
  • Knowledge of mortgage/equity loan processing, closing, and documentation requirements.
  • Registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, including fingerprinting and background checks.
  • Advanced skill in comprehending, analyzing, and communicating complex written legal documents.
  • Advanced presentation skills in a professional setting.
  • Advanced word processing and spreadsheet software skills.
