About the position

The Mortgage Loan Officer II at First Bank & Trust is responsible for originating and managing larger and more complex mortgage loans that align with established lending requirements and criteria. This role is crucial in ensuring maximum profitability for the bank while minimizing associated risks. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of progressively advanced experience in bank lending or a related field. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this position. In this role, the Mortgage Loan Officer will actively seek, identify, and solicit potential mortgage loan customers, fostering a sales culture within the Mortgage Lending Department. The officer will conduct interviews with mortgage loan applicants to gather necessary information for making informed credit decisions, adhering to Loan Policies and Guidelines, industry standards, and consumer compliance regulations. A critical aspect of the job involves determining the creditworthiness of applicants by analyzing credit information and appraisals, and referring to lending authority as needed. The officer will also be responsible for monitoring the collection of all mortgage loans, assisting the Mortgage Loan Servicing Department in collection efforts, and ensuring compliance with all legal requirements. Staying current on industry products and developments is vital to maintain the bank's competitive edge. Additionally, the Mortgage Loan Officer will provide ongoing customer service to ensure customer retention and promote cross-selling of other bank products and services. Collaboration with correspondent banks, affiliates, and other FBT banks in originating and closing mortgage loans is also part of the role. Participation in loan meetings and providing guidance to other Mortgage Department staff are expected responsibilities, along with adherence to FBT policies and compliance training.

Responsibilities

  • Seek, identify, and solicit potential mortgage loan customers to enhance a sales culture within the Mortgage Lending Department.
  • Interview mortgage loan applicants to assemble information needed for credit decisions as per Loan Policies and Guidelines.
  • Determine creditworthiness of applicants by analyzing credit information and appraisals, referring to lending authority as required.
  • Monitor past-due reports and assist the Mortgage Loan Servicing Department on collection efforts using legal means as required.
  • Stay current on industry products and developments to ensure the bank's competitive advantage.
  • Provide ongoing customer service to ensure customer retention and cross-selling of other bank products and services.
  • Assist correspondent banks, affiliates, and other FBT banks with originating and closing mortgage loans.
  • Attend loan meetings as directed by the Mortgage Lending Department Manager to participate in operational decisions.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to other Mortgage Department Staff.
  • Act in accordance with FBT policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook.
  • Adhere to compliance procedures and participate in required compliance training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of four years of progressively advanced experience in bank lending or equivalent experience.
