The Mortgage Processor I at Navy Federal Credit Union is responsible for processing first mortgage loans in compliance with federal and state laws, as well as the organization's policies. This role involves coordinating the loan file from the initial handoff from loan origination through to closing, ensuring all required documentation is accurate and submitted timely. The processor serves as the main point of contact for members and third parties, providing updates and clarifying the mortgage process while managing deliverables to meet closing dates.

  • Process first mortgage loans in accordance with applicable federal/state laws and Navy Federal's policies.
  • Establish and maintain contact with members and external third parties to guide the mortgage loan process.
  • Continue to qualify applicants if changes occur during processing, such as appraisal amounts or financial circumstances.
  • Provide detailed mortgage information to members regarding requirements, products, and policies.
  • Clarify complexities of the mortgage/equity loan process.
  • Evaluate, personalize, and recommend financing alternatives.
  • Obtain, review, and verify mortgage applications and required documentation for accuracy.
  • Request and obtain additional documentation needed from members to meet loan requirements.
  • Evaluate loan documentation, calculate income, review assets, and analyze liabilities.
  • Validate automated underwriting decisions per delegated authority.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal laws and Navy Federal guidelines throughout the mortgage loan process.
  • Determine and advise members on approved loan conditions and documentation requirements.
  • Communicate and document loan decisions to keep involved parties informed.
  • Ensure loans comply with RESPA guidelines prior to submission for quality assurance review and closing.
  • Coordinate settlement dates with members, attorneys, and realtors.
  • Reconcile changes and corrections with closing agents and settlement attorneys.
  • Analyze, research, and resolve discrepancies related to member accounts/loans.
  • Prepare and review loan activity reports to track status updates and identify items needing attention.
  • Experience in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Real Estate Lending systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of mortgage/equity loan processing, closing, and documentation requirements.
  • Exposure to financial transaction/processing responsibilities.
  • Experience in member/customer service, preferably in a call center or retail banking environment.
  • Familiarity with financial institution and lending practices, principles, and regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective skills in automated systems and software.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and make sound decisions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Working knowledge of Navy Federal's functions and operations.
  • Familiarity with Empower LOS system.
