About the position

The Motor Vehicle Direct Client Service Specialist I is a fast-paced position that requires dealing with large numbers of customers every day. Candidates should be able to work independently and make informed decisions. Attention to detail is critical. The ability to process large sums of money and excellent customer service skills are required for this position. This position will administer road and written tests in inclement weather and will travel to other offices, so realizable transportation is a must. This is not a remote position and work will take place within the Bennington DMV office. Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Due to significant public contact, exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to multi-task and prioritize unpredictable workloads. Employees must be able to deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Within the office setting, normal workplace conditions prevail. Occasional trips outdoors when verifying vehicle identification numbers are required. Incumbents must be able to travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Overtime work may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve customers promptly and efficiently while maintaining a minimum production level of 3+ transactions per hour with a 1% or less error rate.
  • Administer road and written tests in inclement weather.
  • Process large sums of money accurately and efficiently.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints with professionalism and patience.
  • Travel to other offices as needed to assist with staffing shortages.
  • Verify vehicle identification numbers outdoors when necessary.

Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years of work experience in a customer or client service role such as retail, hospitality or government that included significant public contact and regular use of computer programs.
  • Four (4) or more months of work experience in the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in licensing or registration meeting proficiency standards set by the Department.
  • Proficiency in license or registration processes for a minimum of 4 months.
