About the position

This position is located at the Redding DMV Driver Safety Office (DSO). The Motor Vehicle Representative (MVR) responds to requests for information and solves problems posed by the public, law enforcement, and other governmental agencies by phone, correspondence, and in-person. The MVR updates, reviews, and analyzes driving records utilizing the Driver Safety Automation system, furnishes the public with and explains the use of forms issued by the Department, inspects documents for authenticity, signatures, and completeness, and interprets, applies, and explains the provisions of the Vehicle Code, administrative regulations, policies, procedures, and other applicable laws. The MVR also schedules hearings and interviews, creates case files, issues subpoenas, and assists with correspondence, filing, and phones. This Limited Term position may be extended to 24 months and may become Permanent.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to requests for information and solve problems posed by the public, law enforcement, and other governmental agencies.
  • Update, review, and analyze driving records utilizing the Driver Safety Automation system.
  • Furnish the public with and explain the use of forms issued by the Department.
  • Inspect documents for authenticity, signatures, and completeness.
  • Interpret, apply, and explain the provisions of the Vehicle Code, administrative regulations, policies, procedures, and other applicable laws.
  • Schedule hearings and interviews as requested by drivers or their representatives.
  • Schedule reexaminations as requested by Driver Safety Officers or other professional staff.
  • Create case files, issue subpoenas, and respond to requests for discovery.
  • Assist as necessary with correspondence, filing, and phones.

Requirements

  • Experience in customer service.
  • Excellent technical, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal/written instructions.
  • Flexibility in work assignments.
  • Initiative to complete work independently or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a government or public service role.
  • Familiarity with the Vehicle Code and administrative regulations.
