About the position

The Movies and TV Core News Journalist position at Screen Rant is a paid freelance remote role focused on producing timely and high-quality articles about the entertainment industry, specifically movies and TV. The role requires writers to work under the guidance of the Movies and TV Lead Editor, contributing to the site’s rapid news cycle while ensuring adherence to editorial standards. Responsibilities

• Write 5-10 articles per week in Screen Rant's house style, including fact-checking, formatting, linking, and basic image editing.
• Update and refresh older content as needed.
• Accept and apply feedback from the editorial team.
• Communicate openly and actively with the editorial team.
• Maintain a flexible schedule, preferably working afternoons (PST) and being available on weekends.

Requirements

• A passion for the content and a drive to grow within the industry.
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English Literature, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience working with a credible digital publication (not including personal blogs or non-published work).
• Broad working knowledge of Movies and TV and the entertainment industry across multiple genres.
• Knowledge of Network TV is a plus.
• Ability to analyze content and pull directly from source material to back up claims.
• A sharp eye for grammatical details and an excellent command of the English language.
• Ability to write high-quality articles with swift turn-around times.
• Comfortable working in an entirely virtual environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Understanding of what it means to write a 'News' piece.
• Familiarity with platforms such as Asana, WordPress, and Discord.
• Image editing experience.
• SEO and Google Analytics knowledge.
