About the position

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center is seeking an MRI Technologist to join our team. This full-time position requires working 72 hours per pay period on a mid-shift schedule, specifically three 12-hour shifts from Friday to Sunday, 12:30 PM to 1:00 AM. The successful candidate will perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce high-quality MRI images while maintaining a safe MRI environment at all times. The facility is an award-winning, certified, and accredited center with 541 beds, recognized for its advanced care in various medical fields including stroke recovery, bariatric surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgery. The department features state-of-the-art critical care rooms equipped with advanced technology to enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Performs procedures or examinations under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation or therapeutic intervention.
  • Operates high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce high-quality MRI images, selecting appropriate pulse sequences and evaluating MRI scans for technical quality.
  • Maintains MRI safety zones per ACR guidelines and obtains high-quality MRI scans in a timely manner.
  • Assists radiologists in developing new protocols and MRI imaging techniques.
  • Identifies and screens patients according to MRI safety guidelines, obtaining patient history and verifying consents as needed.
  • Provides patient instructions and education to minimize anxiety and ensure cooperation during MRI procedures.
  • Positions patients for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Identifies, prepares, and administers medications as prescribed, including performing venipuncture or IM injections for contrast media.
  • Assists radiologists with MRI procedures and ensures time outs are performed.
  • Coordinates scheduling and patient flow, demonstrating proficiency in clerical skills and inventory control.
  • Educates, trains, and orients new staff members and provides education for student technologists.
  • Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and performs BLS as needed.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required education assignments annually.

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed an educational program accredited by ARRT or ARMRIT.
  • Must have and maintain one of the following certifications: ARRT (R) and within 1 year ARRT (MR), NMTCB or ARRT (N) and within one year ARRT (MR), ARDMS and within one year ARRT (MR), or ARMRIT certification.
