About the position

The MRI Technologist position at Guthrie involves maintaining the daily functions of the MRI department under the direction of a radiologist. The role requires minimal supervision and includes responsibilities such as preparing patients for MRI exams, ensuring safety protocols, and operating MRI equipment. The position emphasizes patient care, technical proficiency, and adherence to safety standards in a clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate the correct protocol for scanning the requested anatomy with minimal supervision.
  • Check MRI consult/prescription and prepare the patient for the exam by explaining the procedure and changing them into appropriate attire.
  • Review patient screening forms for contraindications and initiate necessary requests for x-rays for screening purposes.
  • Research materials to confirm MRI compatibility of biomedical implants and document findings in the patient chart.
  • Prepare the MRI room and scanner equipment according to the anatomical area to be scanned.
  • Explain the MRI examination procedure to patients, including communication methods during the scan.
  • Transfer patients safely to the MRI scanner table and prepare for intravenous injections if needed.
  • Initiate scanning protocols as suggested by the radiologist and monitor the patient's condition during the scan.
  • Display scans for the radiologist and alert them of any abnormalities present on images.
  • Maintain familiarity with life support equipment and monitor patients during and post-injection for any reactions.
  • Rotate call for overnight and weekend shifts, and maintain orderliness in the scanner department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with additional 2-year Radiology Technology Training from a JRCERT approved program.
  • ARRT(R) Certification preferred, with ARRT(R)(MR) certification being a plus.
  • Minimum of two years MRI scanning experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pediatric and geriatric patient populations.
  • Familiarity with life support equipment and emergency response protocols.
