About the position

The MRI Technologist position at Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo, CA, is an entry-level role that involves operating magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patients' bodies for diagnostic purposes. This position is under the direction of the Chief of Radiology and the Imaging Services Director, allowing for some independent judgment and initiative in performing related technological functions. The primary goal is to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care while utilizing efficient and safe processes. In this role, the MRI Technologist will perform patient studies according to established protocols, which includes placing specified coils close to the area of interest. The technologist will operate imaging and other equipment devices to provide quality diagnostic services, which involves keying commands into the computer to specify scan sequences, adjusting transmitters and receivers, and entering data on the camera's keyboard to photograph images. A significant part of the job involves interviewing patients to explain the MRI procedures, addressing their concerns, and maintaining a high degree of tact, courtesy, and poise during interactions with patients, staff, and visitors. Safety is a critical aspect of this role, as the MRI Technologist must ensure the safety of both patients and staff. This includes explaining safety protocols, requesting the removal of hazardous metal objects, alerting staff of potential dangers, and monitoring patients via closed-circuit TV. Additionally, the technologist will be responsible for orienting new hires and training MRI Technologists, students, and trainees. In the absence of the MRI Supervising Technologist, the MRI Technologist may be required to direct, check, and train other MRI employees. Other related duties may also be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Operates imaging and other equipment devices to provide quality diagnostic services, including keying commands into the computer and adjusting transmitters and receivers.
  • Interviews patients to explain MRI procedures and address their concerns with tact and courtesy.
  • Ensures patient and staff safety by explaining safety protocols and monitoring patients via closed-circuit TV.
  • Orients new hires and trains MRI Technologists, students, and trainees.
  • May direct, check, and train other MRI employees in the absence of the MRI Supervising Technologist.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years of continuous recent experience as an MRI Technologist, fully proficient in all duties required of an MRI Technologist II.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist - Venipuncture Certificate (California) within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching other Technologists.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • ARRT certification preferred.
