About the position

The MRI Technologist position at Guthrie involves maintaining the daily function of the MRI department under the direction of a radiologist. This role requires minimal supervision and focuses on performing MRI scans, ensuring patient safety, and adhering to protocols for imaging procedures.

Responsibilities

• Initiate the correct protocol for scanning the requested anatomy with minimal supervision.
• Advise the patient about the possibility and/or necessity of an intravenous contrast injection and the precautions involved.
• Transfer the patient to the MRI scanner table and prepare for intravenous injection if needed.
• Initiate scanning protocols as suggested by the radiologist and select correct parameter data for each patient.
• Display scans on the operator's viewing console for the radiologist and adjust settings for recording scans.
• Alert the radiologist of abnormalities present on images and monitor the patient's condition during the scan.
• Check MRI consult/prescription and prepare the patient for the exam by explaining the procedure and changing them into a hospital gown.
• Transfer scans to PACs and notify the radiologist that the series is ready for viewing.
• Maintain familiarity with life support equipment and monitor the patient's condition during and post-injection.
• Review patient screening forms and investigate contraindications for MRI examination.

Requirements

• High school diploma with additional 2-year Radiology Technology Training from a JRCERT approved program.
• Minimum of two years MRI scanning experience preferred.
• CPR certification according to hospital policy.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with pediatric, geriatric, and psychiatric patient populations.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently in a call situation.
