About the position

The MS Compliance Officer I position at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is responsible for managing a caseload related to the assessment of licensed drivers and applicants whose driving abilities may be impaired due to medical conditions. The role involves reviewing complaints, analyzing medical reports, and making recommendations in accordance with established guidelines and Florida statutes. The incumbent will work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring compliance with medical advisory standards and advising customers on reconsideration requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload and carry out multiple assignments in a busy work environment.
  • Review complaints regarding licensed drivers and applicants with questionable driving abilities due to medical impairments.
  • Analyze incoming medical reports and obtain additional medical records for review by the Medical Advisory Board.
  • Make recommendations based on Medical Advisory Board Guidelines and Florida Statutes.
  • Revoke driving privileges of individuals deemed medically unsafe to drive by the Medical Advisory Board.
  • Advise customers on requirements for reconsideration.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical disabilities affecting driving ability.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and conditions.
  • Experience in reviewing and screening medical reports.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to research and apply problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • A minimum of 2 years casework experience in a relevant program.
  • Experience in customer service for at least 2 years.
  • Experience in composing letters and tracking correspondence.
  • Experience in analyzing information and conducting research.
  • Experience in handling confidential materials.
  • Experience in a health-related field or in a driver license program for at least 1 year.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
