About the position

The MS Wrestling Coach - Assistant is responsible for providing instruction and coaching to middle school students, helping them develop their athletic skills and excel in wrestling. This role contributes to the overall educational program and the growth of student athletes, ensuring they are competitive while promoting teamwork, discipline, and good sportsmanship. The coach will work collaboratively with other staff and coaches to achieve common goals within the athletic program.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions.
• Promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
• Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of student athletes.
• Collaborate with school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives.
• Ensure coaches work together toward a common goal within the athletic program.
• Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities regularly.
• Protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
• Work with the Athletic Director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
• Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program.
• Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions on out-of-town trips.
• Instruct and advise students on academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
• Maintain files and ensure compliance with District guidelines.
• Apply and enforce student discipline during contests and practice sessions.
• Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
• Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, and staff.
• Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within the program.
• Oversee cleaning, repairing, and storing of athletic equipment.
• Establish and meet annual performance goals.

Requirements

• 3+ years' successful experience coaching an athletic sport is preferred.
• Experience working with students in a diverse, multicultural academic setting is required.
• General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures is required.
• Knowledge of middle school athletic rules/regulations is required.
• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes is required.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
