The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) position at AbbVie is a field-based role that serves as a scientific expert, strategically supporting the scientific and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area throughout the product life cycle. MSLs are the primary communicators of AbbVie science within specific geographies, engaging with healthcare professionals to provide insights and information about disease states and treatment options. This role is crucial in bridging the gap between AbbVie and the medical community, ensuring that healthcare providers are well-informed about the latest developments in AbbVie’s therapeutic offerings. As an entry-level MSL, the individual will learn and develop the necessary capabilities and responsibilities defined by AbbVie Medical Affairs. The position requires the execution of high-impact territory initiatives, which involves developing and maintaining territory plans that align with medical and scientific objectives. MSLs will identify and cultivate relationships with external experts in their therapeutic areas, ensuring that they deliver on territory plan objectives and meet project deadlines. They will also be responsible for compliance with corporate policies and procedures, ensuring accurate documentation of healthcare professional interactions. In addition to executing territory initiatives, MSLs will serve as scientific resources to external healthcare providers and stakeholders, providing education on disease states, the therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products. Continuous self-education on market trends and product knowledge is essential, as is supporting research initiatives across development, including site evaluation and recruitment. Collaboration is key in this role, as MSLs will maintain cross-functional partnerships with commercial teams and clinical research associates to develop and execute account plans that support shared business objectives. The MSL position is designed for individuals who possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills, leadership attributes, and the ability to quickly learn foundational skills in scientific storytelling and active listening.
