About the position

The Medical Technologist position in the Blood Bank Laboratory at UAB Medicine involves performing and reporting results of laboratory procedures on body tissues and fluids. The role requires accuracy in testing and collaboration with supervisors and team leads to evaluate new instruments, maintain quality control, and assist in various laboratory activities. This position supports multiple shifts, promoting work/life balance, and is part of a nationally recognized academic medical center.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues and fluids.
• Check accuracy and report results of laboratory tests.
• Assist supervisor and/or team lead with evaluating new instruments and methods.
• Prepare reagents and maintain quality control information.
• Troubleshoot equipment and perform maintenance as needed.
• Assist with apheresis procedures and bone marrows.
• Coordinate educational sessions and quality control/improvement activities within the section.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field.
• Completion of a twelve (12) month internship in a Medical Technology program approved by NAACLS.
• Certification from ASCP or AMT must be obtained within fifteen (15) months from date of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required within thirty (30) days from date of hire.
