About the position

The student assistant position at the University of Hawaii at Hilo's Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Center is an entry-level role designed to support administrative tasks that facilitate the operational flow of the MTM Program. The role aims to develop the knowledge base and competency of the student while performing pharmacy functions under the direct supervision of a clinical pharmacist.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively to maximize individual member/patient outcomes
  • Coordinate and disseminate member/patient communications including welcome letters, member/patient resources, and member/patient and provider letters
  • Contact members/patients to explain the MTM program and schedule appointments for medication reviews
  • Collect and screen inbound communication (phone calls, voicemail messages, facsimiles, mail)
  • Assist in providing patient-centered MTM services to optimize medication therapy and improve outcomes
  • Provide MTM services including comprehensive medication reviews, targeted interventions, adherence monitoring interventions, cost-effective interventions, and transitions in care
  • Participate in required operational meetings and training sessions as necessary
  • Document patient encounters and interventions related to the MTM services provided
  • Maintain competence required for current position and assist in training of new employees and students
  • Participate in continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts
  • Maintain accountability in quality improvement efforts and subsequent monitoring of process and results
  • Promote and foster an environment of safety
  • Comply with all legal requirements and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy, Doctorate of Pharmacy Program
  • Valid and good standing Hawaii State Pharmacy Intern License
