About the position

As a Member of Technical Staff in Data Center SSD Firmware at Micron Technology, you will play a pivotal role in leading the exploration of architecture, researching new technologies, and conducting proof of concept work to transform innovative ideas into reality. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with a team of experts in SSD architecture and firmware, focusing on addressing critical data center challenges related to power, performance, endurance, and overall system improvement. Your extensive knowledge of compute architecture and storage systems will be instrumental in developing the next generation of SSDs, which may involve crafting and evaluating new algorithms and functionalities. Effective collaboration with system architects will be essential to align on new features and specifications, ensuring that the solutions developed meet the evolving needs of data centers. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include leading architectural discussions, researching and implementing new technologies, and conducting proof of concept work. You will leverage your solid understanding of SSD architecture, including I/O Data Path, FTL, and NAND management, to drive innovation in firmware development. Your hands-on experience in areas such as PCIe, NVMe, ZNS, NAND media management, and algorithm development will be crucial as you work to enhance the performance and reliability of SSD products. Additionally, your strong problem-solving skills will enable you to find creative solutions to complex challenges, while your ability to communicate effectively across multiple teams will foster a collaborative work environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead the exploration of SSD architecture and research new technologies.
  • Conduct proof of concept work to turn innovative ideas into reality.
  • Collaborate with system architects to align on new features and specifications.
  • Develop the next generation of SSDs by crafting and evaluating new algorithms and functionalities.
  • Address data center challenges related to power, performance, and endurance.
  • Analyze and optimize performance of critical algorithms.
  • Present sophisticated technical ideas and concepts effectively.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of knowledge and experience in the design, development, and architecture of enterprise SSD/storage products.
  • A BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of SSD architecture including I/O Data Path, FTL, and NAND management.
  • Hands-on experience in PCIe, NVMe, ZNS, NAND media management, firmware, SSD FTL, TLC, and QLC.
  • Solid understanding of firmware development, verification, and system failure analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to find creative solutions to difficult problems.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and firmware development using assembly and C/C++ programming.
  • Experience in storage fundamentals and storage protocols.
  • Strong skills in analyzing sophisticated firmware and hardware issues.
  • Confirmed understanding of structured firmware development process and life cycle.
