About the position

The MTW Collaborative Director is a leadership role within the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA), responsible for supporting the MTW Collaborative Board and its members in shaping advocacy and policy goals, managing operations, and overseeing finances for a national membership organization dedicated to the Moving to Work (MTW) program. The position requires a strong commitment to affordable housing, strategic thinking, and the ability to engage with various stakeholders to advance the organization's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the advancement of policy, advocacy, and legislative goals of the MTW Collaborative.
  • Build and capitalize on relationships with HUD, Congress, and other relevant stakeholders to advocate for MTW-related policies.
  • Review, analyze, and prepare responses to proposed legislation and policy issues affecting MTW agencies.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate the MTW program in Congress and the housing industry.
  • Serve as the spokesperson for the MTW Collaborative and represent the organization to stakeholders.
  • Work with the Board and Committees to develop and execute strategic initiatives aligned with MTW goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress on strategic initiatives and develop supporting materials.
  • Develop and implement strategies for member recruitment, retention, and engagement.
  • Lead member engagement activities and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Plan and execute the annual MTW Conference, managing logistics and communications.
  • Support the Board Treasurer in financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes.
  • Manage ongoing communications work, including newsletters and website updates.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the organization and its Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or advanced degree in public policy, public administration, or social work.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience in affordable housing or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of federal affordable housing programs, particularly the MTW program.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Ability to work independently in a small-staff environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in advocacy and policy analysis related to housing programs.
  • Background in managing non-profit organizations or membership associations.
  • Familiarity with legislative processes and stakeholder engagement.
