About the position

The Multi-Craft HVAC Technician at the University of Texas at Austin is responsible for providing journey-level and master multi-crafted technical trade skills for the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of HVAC systems in university apartments. This role requires a combination of HVAC expertise and skills in other trades such as electrical and plumbing, ensuring that all work meets industry standards and is completed efficiently. The technician will also participate in safety training and emergency repairs, contributing to the overall maintenance of the university's housing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance on all HVAC equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Provide multi-crafted work in other trade areas including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, kitchen equipment, and painting as needed.
  • Analyze computer-generated work orders and prioritize tasks using troubleshooting techniques.
  • Inspect and evaluate work to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and residents regarding repairs and work order status.
  • Complete and submit paperwork accurately and timely, including work orders and inventory management.
  • Participate in safety training and promote safety practices among co-workers.
  • Respond to emergency repairs 24/7 and facilitate completion as needed.
  • Drive a UT vehicle to transport equipment and supplies for maintenance and repairs.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • At least 5 years of experience in building construction, mechanical, or utilities trade, with at least 3 years of journey-level experience.
  • Experience with tools and equipment common to the specified trades.

Nice-to-haves

  • More than five years of journey-level HVAC experience.
  • Experience with HVAC split systems and mini splits in residential buildings.
  • Electrical experience in installing conduit, wiring, and controls for multiple electrical systems.
  • Licensed by the State of Texas as a master or journey-level HVAC technician.
  • Experience in commercial and residential renovation and maintenance of apartments.
