About the position

The Multi-Craft Locksmith position at the University of Texas at Austin involves providing journey-level technical trade skills for the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of security services in residence halls, apartments, and dining facilities. The role requires a combination of mechanical knowledge and communication skills to effectively respond to emergencies and perform various locksmithing tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform installations and repairs of commercial mortise lock-sets and exit devices.
• Pin cylinder cores including master tier.
• Use PDA to change lock codes as needed.
• Respond to emergencies to repair broken mortise locks.
• Analyze computer-generated work orders and prioritize repairs.
• Use troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques for maintenance and repairs.
• Work with key software and communicate with staff and residents regarding repairs.
• Carry a UT cell phone and be on-call for emergencies.
• Assist in installations and repairs of door access systems and CCTV cameras.
• Complete and submit daily paperwork to the supervisor.
• Drive a UT vehicle to transport equipment and supplies.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 5 years of building construction, mechanical, or utilities trade experience, with 3 years being journey-level experience.
• Knowledge and use of tools and equipment common to the trades specified.

Nice-to-haves

• Five or more years of journey-level experience in a combination of trades.
• Five or more years of commercial journey-level experience as a locksmith.
• Experience in installing, repairing, and maintaining mortise locks and other locking devices.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
