About the position

The Multi Lingual Learner (MLL) Teacher is responsible for facilitating the learning of students in a high school setting, focusing on language acquisition and cultural sensitivity. The role aims to support students in their development as mature and responsible individuals while ensuring they meet academic standards and prepare for standardized tests.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
• Utilizes instructional materials and technologies that support language acquisition.
• Incorporates best practices to support language acquisition in academic and social contexts.
• Creates a conducive classroom environment appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
• Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Tailors instructional strategies to meet individual student needs, focusing on vocabulary development and comprehension.
• Becomes knowledgeable of each student's culture and helps others adapt to cultural differences.
• Works collaboratively with interpreters and serves as a liaison between students, families, and the community.
• Communicates with the systems operator for proper coding of ESOL students.
• Provides annual faculty review on state and federal ESOL rules and regulations.
• Prepares students for state and federal standardized tests and follows testing security protocols.
• Serves on Student Support Teams to assist in developing academic interventions.
• Maintains accurate records as required by law and district policy.
• Assists administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
• Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in a fair manner.
• Makes provisions to be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required.
• Attends staff meetings and seeks to improve professional competence.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Requirements

• Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate in the area of employment.
• ESOL endorsement preferred.
