About the position

News 3 Now is seeking a Multi-Media Journalist who is not only passionate about news but also possesses the creativity and flexibility to tell compelling stories across various platforms. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic storyteller with a proven track record of finding, creating, and delivering important content for high-quality, high-energy newscasts. This role requires the ability to cover breaking news stories as well as feature stories, ensuring that our coverage resonates with audiences wherever they are, whether through television, digital, or social media channels. As part of a team that produces over 40 hours of television news weekly, the Multi-Media Journalist will innovate on both TV and digital platforms, contributing to our stronghold in the market. The candidate will be expected to develop enterprise story ideas that go beyond the press release, come to daily editorial meetings with actionable story ideas, and transform those ideas into engaging stories. This includes shooting, writing, and editing their own pieces, as well as delivering live reports, particularly during breaking news situations. The role also involves publishing content and engaging with audiences through social and digital channels, developing long-form promotable content to drive viewership, and building sources within the community to understand viewer interests. Collaboration with management to meet audience goals and strategies is also a key component of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop enterprise story ideas that go beyond the press release.
  • Come to daily editorial meetings with multiple actionable story ideas.
  • Shoot, write, and edit your own pieces.
  • Deliver engaging live reports, especially in breaking news situations.
  • Publish content and engage with audiences through social and digital channels.
  • Develop long-form promotable content that drives viewership.
  • Build sources within the community to understand viewer interests.
  • Work with management to deliver on audience goals and strategy.

Requirements

  • An open mind and a passion for great journalism.
  • Experience in both hard news and feature reporting.
  • Minimum two years experience in broadcast journalism.
  • Four-year degree in journalism, communications or equivalent field preferred.
  • Ability to present news stories professionally from a TV studio.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of newsroom software, camera equipment, and editing systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. and to sit, walk or stand for long periods.
