About the position

CBS Chicago is seeking a dynamic Multi-Skilled Journalist (per diem) to capture, shoot, edit, and deliver news content both online and on-air. This role involves reporting on daily and breaking news, collaborating with the digital content director and managing editor, and ensuring all production deadlines are met while maintaining high standards of accuracy and ethics.

Responsibilities

• Build enterprise content aligned with news strategies
• Accurately and creatively report daily and breaking news
• Report live and on-tape, both scripted and unscripted
• Collaborate with digital content director and managing editor to create compelling content
• Write copy and order graphics
• Function as a Multi-Skilled Journalist, reporting, writing, shooting, and editing content
• Participate in editorial meetings and provide meaningful enterprise content
• Ensure all daily show production deadlines are met
• Maintain dedication to accuracy, fairness, and ethics
• Prepare copy for online, social/digital media, and radio
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Five years' experience as a general assignment reporter, preferably in a top 20 market
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a similar field
• Proven ability to write and edit broadcast copy aligned with news strategies
• Experience with non-linear shooting and editing is a plus
• Knowledge of social media and ability to execute the station's social media strategy
• Ability to work within tight deadlines
• Comfortable on camera and able to receive feedback and adjust performance accordingly
• Willingness to work independently on a varying schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with the Chicago area is strongly preferred.
