About the position

CBS Chicago is seeking a dynamic Multi-Skilled Journalist (per diem) to capture and deliver news content across various platforms. The role involves shooting, editing, and reporting news both online and on-air, while ensuring adherence to journalistic standards of accuracy and ethics.

Responsibilities

• Build enterprise content that aligns with news strategies
• Accurately and creatively report daily and breaking news
• Report live and on-tape, both scripted and unscripted
• Collaborate with the digital content director and managing editor to create compelling content
• Write copy and order graphics
• Function as a Multi-Skilled Journalist, reporting, writing, shooting, and editing content
• Participate in editorial meetings and provide meaningful enterprise content
• Meet all daily show production deadlines
• Maintain dedication to accuracy, fairness, and ethics
• Prepare copy for online, social/digital media, and radio
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Five years' experience as a general assignment reporter, preferably in a top 20 market
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a similar field
• Proven ability to write and edit broadcast copy aligned with news strategies
• Ability to work within tight deadlines
• Comfortable on camera and able to receive feedback and adjust performance accordingly
• Experience with non-linear shooting and editing is a plus
• Knowledge of social media and ability to execute the station's social media strategy is necessary
• Willingness and availability to work independently on a varying schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with the Chicago area is strongly preferred.
