About the position

The Multifamily LIHTC Advisor role at Fannie Mae involves advising on customer network development and support activities while managing operational tasks. This position allows for flexibility in daily work and focuses on building relationships with syndicator partners throughout various phases of LIHTC investments. The advisor will analyze portfolio data, ensure data integrity, and lead projects related to credit risk management and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the relationship with syndicator partners in the development, construction, and operation phases of LIHTC investments.
  • Analyze Multifamily portfolio data, counterparties, markets, legal agreements/terms, financial statements, and cash flows.
  • Identify trends and draw reasonable conclusions from examination of data and other sources of information.
  • Resolve problems and develop recommendations based on sourced information.
  • Present positions to management and external stakeholders to mitigate financial and credit risk.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity, assisting in the automation of asset management data.
  • Improve processes to monitor and communicate credit risk within the team and across the Multifamily organization.
  • Lead and support the development of action plans for non-routine project-based work including regulatory and internal audit activities.
  • Maintain Fannie Mae training schedule and focus on personal development aligned with leadership criteria.
  • Assist with ad hoc assignments and provide support for operational activities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise, best practices, and recommendations to the team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years related experience in a relevant field.
  • Strong relationship management skills, including stakeholder engagement and vendor management.
  • Experience in risk assessment and management, including evaluating controls and conducting impact assessments.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with people from different functional expertise.
  • Skilled in presenting information in an engaging and understandable manner.
  • Experience in documentation and database reporting for analysis and decision-making.
  • Ability to identify strategic options and resources to meet objectives.
  • Experience in planning and managing organizational change to meet strategic goals.
  • Strong influencing skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Experience in gathering accurate information to explain concepts and answer critical questions.
  • Operational excellence in improving and overseeing operations.
  • Business insight in advising and designing business models.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in multifamily acquisition and disposition.
  • Knowledge of the Multifamily market, including LIHTC Asset Management and affordable housing finance.
  • Experience with commercial multifamily real estate markets and property types.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment.
