About the position

The Multifamily-Purchasing Manager at D.R. Horton, Inc. is responsible for overseeing all purchasing activities within the multifamily division. This role involves managing the purchasing staff, creating budgets for upcoming projects, and ensuring the procurement of high-quality products and labor contracts at competitive prices. The manager will also develop purchasing strategies and maintain relationships with contractors and suppliers to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of purchasing for the multifamily division
  • Create budgets for upcoming projects
  • Supervise and manage Purchasing Staff, including hiring, training, and performance appraisal
  • Bid architectural plans to subcontractors and vendors
  • Obtain quality work at competitive prices
  • Oversee the hiring of contractors, suppliers, and laborers
  • Interpret architectural drawings and specifications to determine project requirements
  • Maintain computer databases for pricing, estimates, and items
  • Respond to inquiries from potential new vendors and field staff
  • Develop purchasing and logistic strategies on various levels
  • Identify alternate sourcing opportunities for cost savings and quality enhancements
  • Report to the National Purchasing Manager on division operations and purchasing impact
  • Manage and review costs of existing projects
  • Build strategic relationships and a network of business contacts
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
  • Three to five years of related experience and/or training
  • Ability to focus under pressure and meet tight deadlines with accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and personnel
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Ability to sit for the majority of an 8-hour workday and perform physical tasks as required
