About the position

The Multimedia Journalist at The University of Alabama is responsible for producing, reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content across various platforms. This role requires a commitment to delivering news that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to the audience, all while working under moderate supervision. The journalist will be expected to adhere to the traditional tenets of journalism, effectively combining text, images, sound, video, and graphics to create compelling news stories. In addition to content creation, the Multimedia Journalist will provide guidance and training to entry-level Multimedia Journalists and other staff members, fostering a collaborative and educational environment. The position may also involve anchoring a news cast, which requires strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively on air. The work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, but flexibility is necessary as some evenings, weekends, and holidays will be required to cover news events as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and report news content for all platforms.

  • Ensure news content is clear, engaging, and meaningful to consumers.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level Multimedia Journalists.
  • Adhere to traditional journalism standards and practices.

  • May be responsible for anchoring a news cast.

Requirements

  • Experience in multimedia journalism or a related field.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency in using video and audio editing software.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
