About the position

KWQC is seeking a multimedia journalist/reporter who will be a pioneer in the next generation of news gathering. This role involves reporting news across all available platforms to our viewers, utilizing the latest technology, including lightweight next-generation video equipment and laptop editing. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to report, shoot videos, edit videos, and post web stories, pictures, and videos from both the field and the television station. The multimedia journalist will be responsible for delivering compelling stories that engage and inform the audience. The primary duties include gathering, shooting, and editing pictures, video, and sound for broadcast and online platforms. The journalist will gather data and relevant information on local and national newsworthy events, creating and presenting accurate, fair, and unbiased news content as assigned. This position requires the journalist to provide news and information across multiple platforms, presenting content both inside the KWQC studio and remotely. Developing and maintaining a network of news sources to create exclusive local news content is essential, as is staying current on both local and regional news events. The role demands the ability to interact professionally and effectively with all internal employees and external organizations. The multimedia journalist will be responsible for maintaining all station gear, including cameras, cellphones, tablets, laptops, and any other assigned equipment, as well as ensuring the station vehicle is regularly detailed and maintained. A solid understanding of the editing process and technical aspects of Edius editing software is required, along with the ability to use creative graphic and production techniques to enhance visual and audio storytelling. The journalist must be able to work independently, using sound judgment on all stories, images, and sound used within news stories, and must be capable of working under pressure in a rapidly changing news environment.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, shoot and edit pictures, video, and sound for broadcast and online platforms.
  • Gather data and relevant information on local and national newsworthy events.
  • Create and present accurate, fair, unbiased news content as assigned.
  • Provide news and information across multiple platforms and present content both inside KWQC studio and remotely.
  • Develop and maintain a network of news sources to create exclusive local news content.
  • Stay current on both local and regional news events.
  • Interact professionally and effectively with all internal employees and external organizations.
  • Maintain all station gear including cameras, cellphones, tablets, laptops, and any other assigned equipment.
  • Maintain station vehicle with regular auto detailing and maintenance checks.
  • Understand the editing process and all technical aspects of Edius editing software.
  • Use creative graphic and production techniques to enhance visual and audio storytelling.
  • Work independently and use solid judgment on all stories, images, and sound used within news stories.
  • Work cross-functionally and cooperatively as a team member under tight deadlines.
  • Contribute to and potentially lead projects within the team to enhance newsroom operations.

Requirements

  • Up to 1 year experience as a television reporter or multimedia journalist; Journalism/Communications or equivalent background preferred.
  • Must be able to provide a reel/portfolio of work examples.
  • Must be flexible concerning scheduling and willing to work extended hours, varying shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays, and sometimes on short notice).
  • Must meet physical requirements, including medium to heavy lifting and carrying camera equipment up to 50 pounds for extended periods.
  • Must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must understand ethical issues concerning stories and use appropriate journalistic guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret information to establish facts and determine truth.
  • Basic understanding of Windows-based electronics and the ability to learn ENPS as well as new systems as they are implemented.
  • Demonstrated ability of good news judgment.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, high degree of integrity and professionalism.
  • Up-to-date on, and interested in, current local, regional, and national news events.
  • Comfortable with emerging technology.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in breaking news and deadline-driven situations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a television reporter or multimedia journalist- Journalism/Communications or equivalent background preferred.
  • Drivers License.
