About the position

KCBD is seeking a dedicated and creative multimedia journalist to join our award-winning team. This full-time on-air position requires a hard-working individual who is passionate about storytelling and has a strong understanding of visual storytelling techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for pitching and developing enterprise story ideas on a daily basis, conducting thorough interviews, and performing extensive research and fact-checking to ensure accuracy in reporting. In this role, you will shoot, write, edit, and deliver stories across multiple platforms, including live reporting from the scene, particularly during developing news situations. You will also be expected to deliver content to our digital and social media platforms, ensuring that our audience is engaged and informed. Collaboration is key, as you will typically work alongside a photojournalist, although some solo shooting will be required. You will make beat checks and work closely with other team members to deliver the best possible product both on-air and online. Developing sources and contacts within the community will also be an essential part of your responsibilities. KCBD NewsChannel 11, as the dominant NBC affiliate in Lubbock, Texas, prides itself on producing over 50 hours of local news programming each week. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Strong writing skills
  • Conversational, professional on-camera delivery
  • Degree in journalism, communications, English, or equivalent background preferred
  • Some newsroom experience preferred
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize assignments
  • Availability to work various hours as breaking news or special events warrant
  • Empathy for others and dedication to collaboration
  • MVR check required
