About the position

KSAW, the E.W. Scripps ABC station in Twin Falls, Idaho, is searching for a Multimedia Journalist to share local stories about the issues that matter to the community. This position offers a remote work option, allowing the journalist to engage with the community from various locations while still being an integral part of the KSAW team. The Multimedia Journalist will be responsible for receiving assignments or evaluating news leads and tips to develop compelling story ideas that resonate with the audience. In this role, the journalist will gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interviews, observations, and thorough research. They will organize material, determine the slant or emphasis of the story, and write it according to prescribed editorial style and format standards. The position also requires the journalist to shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories effectively. Editing skills are essential, as the journalist will edit or assist in editing videos for all multimedia platforms, ensuring high-quality content is produced. The Multimedia Journalist will also appear on television programs when conducting taped interviews or narrations and will give live reports from the site of events or from a mobile broadcast unit. Collaboration is key, as the journalist will work cooperatively with photographers assigned to stories and assist news producers in preparing newscasts. Additionally, they will support online staff in preparing multimedia stories, contributing to a comprehensive news coverage strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Receive assignment or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
  • Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edit, or assist in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appear on television program when conducting taped interview or narration.
  • Give live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.
  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred.
  • Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred.
  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.
