Responsibilities

  • Research, gather, shoot, write, edit, and report news stories on-air and online in an accurate and creative manner.
  • Report live on the scene, especially during breaking news.
  • Aggressively research stories and conduct interviews in the field.
  • Develop and maintain sources of information and knowledge about assignments.
  • Demonstrate sound news judgment and collaborate with others to present stories effectively.
  • Utilize non-linear editing equipment daily.
  • Create enterprise hard-news, research-driven packages under tight deadlines.
  • Participate in story selection meetings and contribute lead story ideas centered on safety and security.
  • Attend and speak at community service events, schools, and community gatherings; engage with viewers.
  • Post and regularly update stories on the web and social media, including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Communicate with web staff and other appropriate personnel during breaking news events.
  • Follow clothing and appearance guidelines.
  • Perform creative stand-ups and explanatory live shots as a visual storyteller.
  • Make regular beat checks and stay informed about the viewing area.
  • Use appropriate lighting to enhance news presentation.
  • Participate in critique, feedback, and training processes.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner.
  • Excellent interview and conversational writing skills.
  • Strong live reporting skills and on-camera presentation abilities.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software (such as ENPS), Microsoft applications, and Internet use.
  • Ability to carry, shoot, and edit video with digital cameras.
  • Experience producing and posting content to websites.
  • Intermediate knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethics.
  • Maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere with co-workers, supervisors, and viewers.
  • Strong research skills, including navigating online search engines.
  • Stay current with national and local news/weather.
