About the position

The Multimedia Journalist at KWCH is responsible for gathering, producing, and delivering news stories in a compelling and accurate manner. This role requires a dynamic storyteller who is passionate about local news and can effectively engage viewers through both broadcast and digital platforms. The journalist will work collaboratively with a dedicated team to inform the community and participate in various editorial processes.

Responsibilities

• Gather and provide news and information in the most accurate, appealing, and creative way.
• Write and post digital-original stories prior to airing of the television version.
• Demonstrate sound news judgment and ability to tell stories with pictures and natural sound.
• Utilize non-linear editing equipment on a daily basis.
• Develop and maintain sources for news stories.
• Participate in story selection process through meetings and play an active role in the editorial process.
• Attend, host, and speak at community service events, schools, and community events; meet and greet viewers.
• Work various shifts, including holidays, as required.
• Critique, provide feedback, and participate in training as part of the job.
• Follow clothing and appearance guidelines.

Requirements

• Ability to write clearly, accurately, and in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Prior experience desired, but not required.
• Excellent interview and conversational writing skills.
• Strong live reporting skills and on-camera presentation skills.
• Compelling storytelling ability.
• Ability to shoot and edit video; create personalized stories.
• Able to produce and post original content to websites.
• Ability to generate daily and enterprise story ideas.
• Active participation in the editorial process.
• Proficient in using social media outlets to engage viewers.
• Ability to work well under pressure and with limited supervision.
• Strong initiative and attention to detail.
