About the position

The Multimedia Journalist at KWCH is responsible for gathering, producing, and delivering news stories in a compelling and accurate manner. This role requires a dynamic storyteller who is passionate about local news and can effectively engage viewers through both broadcast and digital platforms. The journalist will work collaboratively with a team to select stories, maintain sources, and participate in community events, all while adhering to the station's standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Gather and provide news and information in the most accurate, appealing, and creative way
• Write and post digital-original stories prior to airing of the television version
• Demonstrate sound news judgment and ability to tell stories with pictures and natural sound
• Utilize non-linear editing equipment on a daily basis
• Develop and maintain sources
• Participate in story selection process through meetings and play an active role in editorial process
• Attend/host/speak at community service, schools, and community events; meet and greet viewers
• Critique, feedback, and training are part of the job
• Follow clothing and appearance guidelines
• Travel for stories as coverage area is large

Requirements

• Ability to write clearly, accurately, and in an easy-to-understand manner
• Excellent interview and conversational writing skills
• Strong live reporting skills and on-camera presentation skills
• Compelling storytelling ability
• Ability to shoot and edit video; create personalized stories
• Ability to generate daily and enterprise story ideas
• Ability to use social media outlets to engage viewers
• Ability to work well under pressure and with limited supervision
• Strong initiative and attention to detail
