About the position

KATU/KUNP is seeking a dedicated and skilled Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ) to join our team based in Salem, Oregon. In this role, you will be responsible for reporting, shooting, and editing news stories that cover a wide range of statewide issues, particularly focusing on the statehouse when it is in session. As an MMJ, you will be expected to enterprising story ideas and develop contacts that will enhance the quality and depth of your reporting. Your work will not only be featured on television but will also be disseminated across various platforms, including the internet, social networking sites, and mobile devices. You will be required to produce daily content, which means you must be adept at shooting and editing your own stories on a daily basis. This position demands a high level of creativity and initiative, as you will be expected to generate compelling content that engages our audience. Additionally, you will provide content for both KATU and KVAL/KMTR, ensuring that our viewers receive timely and relevant news coverage. The ideal candidate will possess sharp news judgment and the ability to tell a story in the NPPA style, showcasing excellent technical skills. You should be comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule while meeting tight deadlines. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are essential for this position, as you will be traveling to various locations to cover stories.

Responsibilities

  • Report, shoot, and edit news stories.
  • Enterprise story ideas and develop contacts.
  • Produce daily content for multiple platforms including television, internet, and social media.
  • Cover statewide issues and the statehouse when in session.
  • Provide content for both KATU and KVAL/KMTR.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years reporting and shooting experience is required.
  • Experience with live shots is required.
  • Excellent technical skills in shooting and editing news stories.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Must have and maintain a valid license and a good driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Live-U is a plus.
  • Experience with AVID editing is a plus.
