About the position

The Multimedia Journalist / Photographer at WMAR is responsible for capturing and editing visual content for various platforms, utilizing a videography-first approach to storytelling. This role involves operating news gathering equipment, writing and editing reports, and appearing on-air for live broadcasts. The ideal candidate will collaborate with newsroom personnel to develop news stories and ensure high-quality content delivery.

Responsibilities

• Capture and edit visual content for multiple platforms.
• Operate and maintain live equipment including microwave, satellite, and related news gathering equipment.
• Work in tandem with newsroom personnel to create and develop news stories.
• Receive assignment or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
• Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
• Organize material and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
• Appear on TV in live or pre-recorded situations.
• Report live from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associates degree in related discipline preferred.
• Generally 2+ years of experience in related field preferred.
• Proficiency with lighting and computer based editing.
• Proficiency with live microwave truck operation.
• Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in posting content to station's web sites.
• Able to work efficiently under multiple deadlines on a daily basis.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company-required insurance limits.
