About the position

This position is responsible for presenting live scripted and unscripted news reports on television. The role involves selecting stories for broadcast, researching, writing, and gathering content for newscasts, ensuring that the information presented is accurate, clear, and relevant to viewers.

Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop stories for broadcast and digital.
  • Research and gather content for stories.
  • Write clear, accurate, and interesting stories.
  • Present live scripted and unscripted news reports.
  • Travel to the scene of news stories to gather video and information.
  • Write and post stories to the website and other digital media platforms.
  • Shoot steady, sequenced video with good audio for news, weather, and sports.
  • Edit video for news stories under tight deadlines.
  • Complete assignments according to established deadlines.
  • Maintain extensive community contacts and awareness of current events.
  • Make promotional and community appearances as required.
  • Communicate frequently and work collaboratively with others in the newsroom.
  • Contribute to the overall team effort in local television journalism.
  • Maintain appropriate grooming standards.
  • Attend editorial and strategic meetings and contribute story ideas.
  • Report to work on time and work established schedules/hours.
  • Produce newscasts as needed.
  • Complete other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • A college degree in journalism, television, or communications or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Demonstrable skills in shooting and editing video for television news is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving history.
  • Knowledgeable of issues, newsmakers, and current events.
  • Ability to handle a variety of news reporting assignments.
  • Familiar with contemporary news technologies for video acquisition and transmission.
  • Solid writing skills required.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people in extreme circumstances.
  • Must be able to think quickly and respond to breaking news in high-pressure situations.
  • Must be flexible to work any assigned shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Previous experience producing a newscast preferred.
