The Multimedia Journalist Reporter plays a crucial role in the production and dissemination of news content across various platforms. This position involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers. The reporter is expected to produce news stories for broadcast, providing detailed descriptions of events and their backgrounds. This includes arranging interviews with individuals who can provide valuable insights into the stories being covered, ensuring that the information presented is accurate and relevant. In addition to reporting, the Multimedia Journalist Reporter is responsible for reviewing and correcting content for errors in grammar and punctuation, adhering to prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines. The role requires a keen eye for detail, as the reporter must evaluate notes taken during events to isolate pertinent facts and details that will shape the narrative of the story. The reporter must also determine the emphasis, length, and format of each story, organizing material accordingly to create a compelling report. Research is a critical component of this position, as the reporter must analyze background information related to news stories to provide complete and accurate information. This involves gathering information through various means, including research, interviews, and attendance at events such as political, news, sports, and social functions. The reporter is expected to pitch relevant stories to news managers and producers, ensuring that the content resonates with the local community. Additionally, the reporter will receive assignments, evaluate leads and tips, and discuss issues with producers and news managers to establish priorities. The Multimedia Journalist Reporter must also check reference materials, such as books and public records, to obtain relevant facts, and revise work to meet editorial approval or fit time requirements. Shooting and editing news events and reports is a key responsibility, as is producing and presenting reports for all platforms. The reporter must ensure that all content meets the company's standards for journalistic integrity and production quality, and will also write stories for web and other eMedia platforms. Engaging with viewers and users on social media sites is an important aspect of the role, as is performing special projects and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Reports news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events
  • Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories
  • Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  • Reviews and evaluates notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details
  • Determines a story's emphasis, length and format, and organizes material accordingly
  • Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to provide complete and accurate information
  • Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at various functions
  • Pitches stories to news managers and news producers relevant to the local community
  • Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas
  • Discusses issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions
  • Checks reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
  • Revises work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
  • Shoots and edits news events and news reports
  • Produces and presents reports for all platforms
  • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Writes stories for the web and other eMedia platforms
  • Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
  • Minimum two years' experience in news reporting (Depending on market size)
  • Superior on-air presence
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Flexibility to work any shift
