About the position

The Multimedia Journalist/Reporter at Nexstar Broadcasting is responsible for producing, reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content across various platforms. The role emphasizes clarity, engagement, and meaningful storytelling for news consumers, ensuring that all content adheres to journalistic integrity and production quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, report, shoot, write, voice, edit, and feed news production content for all platforms.
  • Report news stories for broadcast, detailing the background and events.
  • Arrange interviews with sources for story information.
  • Review and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation according to editorial guidelines.
  • Evaluate notes to isolate pertinent facts and details for stories.
  • Determine story emphasis, length, and format, organizing material accordingly.
  • Research and analyze background information related to news stories.
  • Gather information through research, interviews, and attendance at events.
  • Pitch relevant stories to news managers and producers.
  • Receive assignments and evaluate leads to develop story ideas.
  • Discuss issues with producers and news managers to establish priorities.
  • Check reference materials for relevant facts.
  • Revise work to meet editorial approval or fit time requirements.
  • Shoot and edit news events and reports.
  • Produce and present reports for all platforms.
  • Write stories for web and eMedia platforms.
  • Interact with viewers/users on social media sites.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Minimum two years' experience in news reporting, depending on market size.
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.
