About the position

As a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) at Spectrum News, you will be at the forefront of storytelling, engaging with your community to uncover and report on the issues that matter most. Spectrum News, part of Charter Communications, operates over 30 hyper-local news and regional sports networks, dedicated to producing original, unbiased, and high-quality content. Our innovative journalistic approaches, supported by comprehensive research, aim to inform and engage viewers on essential news, issues, and events occurring in their communities. In this role, you will not only contribute to traditional TV news but also publish content through the Spectrum News app and connected television, ensuring that viewers have access to 24-hour news whenever and however they want it. In your capacity as an MMJ, you will take ownership of the entire storytelling process, from pitching and writing to shooting, interviewing, and editing. This position requires you to be an enterprising storyteller, capable of uncovering perspectives that might otherwise go unreported. You will work collaboratively with a team to create compelling, timely, and accurate coverage that resonates with viewers across various platforms, including TV and digital media. The role is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring a nimble approach to adapt to new stories and perspectives daily. You will enjoy connecting with your neighbors and digging into local issues, all while maintaining a work-life balance through flexible deadlines and a supportive community. As part of Spectrum News, you will be expected to leverage your creativity, technical skills, and curiosity to bring your community's stories to life. Responsibilities

  • Pitch, write, shoot, interview, and edit news stories for various platforms.
  • Engage with community members to uncover important local stories.
  • Work collaboratively with a team to ensure timely and accurate news coverage.
  • Adapt to flexible deadlines and work under time pressure due to breaking news or severe weather emergencies.
  • Utilize social media effectively to enhance storytelling and reach a wider audience.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in television news reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or comparable television work experience.
  • Ability to shoot videos and understand video editing software.
  • Effective communication skills on camera and through writing and verbal expression.
  • An innate curiosity and sense of urgency in creating compelling stories.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license for authorized driving in the state of residence.
