About the position

Eyewitness News is seeking an experienced weekend sports anchor and reporter who is passionate about producing and reporting on sports content that is both informative and entertaining for a diverse audience. The ideal candidate will not only focus on scores and highlights but will delve deeper into storytelling, bringing real narratives to life. This role requires strong writing, photography, and nonlinear editing skills, as well as a keen understanding of the evolving digital landscape in sports reporting. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to create compelling content that resonates across various platforms, ensuring that it stands out in a competitive media environment. In this position, you will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively within a high-energy, creative team. You will be responsible for generating original story ideas and utilizing social media effectively to engage and build a dedicated audience. The role demands a proactive approach to sports journalism, with an emphasis on innovative storytelling techniques that separate you from the competition. A strong background in on-air reporting, along with technical skills in photography and video editing, is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the weekend sports anchor and reporter, delivering engaging sports content on-air and online.
  • Develop and produce original sports stories that go beyond traditional coverage.
  • Utilize social media platforms to engage with the audience and build a following.
  • Collaborate with the news team to create high-quality sports segments.
  • Demonstrate strong shooting, writing, and video editing skills in producing sports content.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and a good driving record for field reporting.

Requirements

  • Strong shooting, writing, and video editing ability.
  • At least 2 years of on-air experience in sports journalism.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media to build a dedicated audience.
  • Proven ability to find original approaches to storytelling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Avid for broadcast and digital video editing.
  • Familiarity with Live-U operation for live reporting.
  • High-level organizational skills to manage multiple stories and deadlines.
  • Ability to tell stories in the NPPA style, focusing on visual storytelling.
