About the position

Eyewitness News is seeking an experienced weekend sports anchor and reporter who is passionate about producing and reporting on all platforms in a way that is both informative and entertaining for fans and non-fans alike. The ideal candidate will go beyond just scores and highlights, focusing on telling real stories that resonate with the audience. Strong writing, photography, and nonlinear editing skills are essential for this role. Candidates must understand the evolving landscape of sports reporting in the digital age and be able to bring innovative ideas to the table regarding sports coverage. A demonstrated ability to position compelling content effectively on both air and digital platforms is required. The successful candidate will thrive in a high-energy, creative, and collaborative environment, working well both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the weekend sports anchor and reporter, delivering engaging sports content on air and across digital platforms.
  • Develop and produce original sports stories that go beyond traditional coverage, appealing to a wide audience.
  • Utilize strong writing and video editing skills to create high-quality news segments.
  • Engage with the audience through social media to build a dedicated following and enhance viewer interaction.
  • Collaborate with the news team to ensure cohesive and comprehensive sports coverage.
  • Stay updated on sports trends and news to provide timely and relevant reporting.

Requirements

  • Strong shooting, writing, and video editing ability.
  • At least 2 years of on-air experience in a similar role.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media effectively to build an audience.
  • Proven ability to find original approaches to storytelling that stand out.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with photography and video editing in Avid for both broadcast and digital.
  • Familiarity with Live-U operation for live broadcasts.
  • High-level organizational skills to manage multiple stories and deadlines.
  • Ability to tell stories in the NPPA style, focusing on visual storytelling.
  • Excellent technical skills related to broadcasting and reporting.
