About the position

As a Multimedia Journalist at Telemundo T60 San Antonio, you will play a crucial role in gathering and reporting newsworthy events that resonate with our audience. Your primary responsibilities will include writing, producing, and presenting fair and accurate news stories, as well as feature stories that engage and inform viewers. You will be expected to stay informed about local and national news events, developing and maintaining a network of contacts that provide access to exclusive stories. Investigating information to establish facts and determine the truth will be a key part of your role, ensuring that the content you deliver is both credible and compelling. In this position, you will be responsible for providing on-air news coverage, which includes both in-studio presentations and frequent field shoots. You will create, report, and help produce news specials and packages based on breaking news or pre-planned stories. Additionally, you will be tasked with creating content for KVDA's non-linear platforms, showcasing your versatility as a journalist. Depending on operational needs, you may also cover as a photographer during team vacations and sick days, further broadening your skill set. Your role will require you to assist producers in establishing sources, executing enterprise news investigations, and maintaining a strong list of story ideas throughout the year. You will be expected to send daily story proposals to the assignment desk and make phone calls to set up interviews, which may occur outside of regular working hours. Community involvement is also essential, as you will be making appearances tied to viewer engagement. Working cooperatively as a team member under tight deadlines is crucial, as is gathering news information and preparing it for presentation across all digital platforms. You will provide input to the show producer on content and format, write headlines and news updates for television and digital platforms, and present newscasts in a professional manner. Your responsibilities will also include the presentation of breaking news during live newscasts and outside of regularly scheduled broadcasts. You will shoot and edit promotional news material, manage technical equipment, and respond quickly to breaking news while collaborating with various team members in the newsroom.

Responsibilities

  • Gather information on newsworthy events.
  • Write, produce and present fair and accurate news stories, as well as feature stories.
  • Maintain informed on news events locally and nationally.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts providing access to exclusive stories.
  • Investigate information to establish facts and determine truth.
  • Deliver copy ready from a Teleprompter or with no Teleprompter.
  • Provide on-air news including both in studio and frequent field shoots.
  • Create, report and help produce news specials and packages based on breaking news or pre-planned stories.
  • Create content for KVDA non-linear platforms.
  • Cover as a Photographer depending on Operation needs during team vacations and sick days.
  • Assist producer in establishing sources and executing enterprise news investigations.
  • Send daily to the assignment desk an email with at least three stories proposal.
  • Make phone calls to set up interviews, which may happen outside of regular working hours.
  • Work nights and weekends as required.
  • Engage in community involvement with reasonable appearances tied into the viewer community.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member under tight daily deadlines.
  • Gather news information and prepare for presentation in the newscast and all digital platforms.
  • Provide input to the show producer on show content and format.
  • Write stories headlines and news updates for television, online and digital platforms.
  • Present newscasts to the viewer in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for the presentation of breaking news to viewers during live newscasts and outside regularly scheduled newscasts.
  • Shoot and edit promos news material, bumpers, ID's, show opens and marketing material.
  • Operate video camera and recording equipment, live truck or live remote transmitting units and edit on Edius Pro editing systems.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news and take direction from the assignment desk, producers, reporters, anchors and production control room personnel.
  • Maintain technical equipment including cameras and lighting gear.
  • Manage project deadlines and deliverables.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Journalism/Communications.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience shooting with HD Cam.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with film or video lighting.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a reporter in a top 50 market.
  • Strong Spanish language skills (verbal & written).
  • Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shifts.
  • Working knowledge of I-news, Stratus, Avid, Edius or Final Cut Pro.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and the internet.
  • High level of motivation with a strong belief in creative ideas and the skills to express them.
  • Ability to think and react quickly while maintaining an overall strategic plan.
  • Ability to work efficiently and prioritize to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.
  • Thorough understanding of the current broadcast and digital media landscape.
