About the position

WYMT-TV is seeking a dynamic Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join its award-winning news team in Hazard, KY. The successful candidate will be responsible for utilizing strong editorial, journalistic, and communication skills to deliver high-quality news coverage. This role requires a demonstrated ability to report, shoot, and edit video, as well as post web stories, pictures, and videos from both the field and the newsroom. The MMJ will play a crucial role in determining the content of newscasts, working closely with producers and the news team to create unique and fast-paced broadcasts. The position involves using social media to identify trending stories and highlight significant social issues, employing creative production techniques such as graphics and innovative media formats to enhance newscasts. The MMJ will be expected to write for the web, post daily updates on all digital platforms, and engage with the community through interviews and research to ensure factual accuracy and credibility. Additionally, the role includes delivering unscripted breaking news coverage and special event reports, collaborating with producers and management to develop broadcast content, and evaluating leads to generate compelling story ideas. Candidates should be prepared to cover news in the field, produce high-profile special reports, and edit video content for both broadcasts and online platforms. Responsibilities

  • Use editorial judgment to help determine content of the newscasts
  • Work with producer and team to create unique, fast-paced newscasts
  • Use social media to determine content of newscasts and highlight big social stories
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance newscasts and stories
  • Write for the web and post daily on all digital platforms including social media and attach images and streaming video
  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer
  • Deliver unscripted breaking news coverage and special event coverage to the community at large
  • Collaborate with producers and management in the development of broadcast content such as newscasts, promotions, and teases
  • Receive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas
  • Cover news in the field to generate, produce, and deliver high-profile special reports
  • Edit video for broadcasts and the web

Requirements

  • Degree in broadcast journalism or one year news experience.
